Tensing aids Schiphol Group with streamlining its asset management system

Schiphol Group

Tensing takes part in realizing Amsterdam airport’s Schiphol Group’s FUSE programme. Within the programme’s outline, Schiphol Group develops and implements the Schiphol GIS (SGIS). The information system brings together all available asset data and their relationships within a geographical context. This includes networked assets such as electricity networks. The objective is to create an IT-environment for centralized management of all asset-related information. The FUSE project team has selected Esri’s GIS software suite as a starting point for the realization.

How Tensing adds value
In 2011, Tensing was part of the team that created the map and chart plotting software for Schiphol Group. This successfully completed assignment was the starting point for further cooperation. This year Tensing contributes by upgrading and improving the asset information that is stored within the SGIS. Tensing consultants are part of the project team that is responsible for the ICT environment and application architecture. In that role, Tensing personnel works on functional designs and develops software.

Schiphol uses the SGIS for optimization of its operations. It helps Schiphol to maintain overview of all its assets and provide insight in condition and availability of cables and pipes and other (networked) infrastructure. SGIS also provides information about the buildings and their surroundings, including the terminals and offices. Commissioning of for example window cleaning work to contractors can be done more efficiently using SGIS data.

“FUSE offers us a much easier to use interface to all our asset information for both users and administrators. The data quality increases as we replace the existing decentralized systems by one combined data repository and GIS. It offers operational departments the possibility to oversee all of Schiphol in case of a problem anywhere on the property. SGIS will help operational managers quickly decide which other assets are present and make them available to resolve the situation. Especially in case of an emergency having access to the right information can make a big difference”, says Boudewijn van Os, FUSE Program Manager at Schiphol.
